“Artistic inquiry is a fundamental mode of human understanding that involves using
[embodied] imagination as a way of knowing.” ~Shawn McNiff 2018
Touch Drawing is a simple yet profound creative process. Spontaneous images are created by moving the hands/fingertips on paper placed over a painted surface. Creating directly with our hands taps into the ancient relationship with embodied and immediate expression. The process often is meditative and dream-like as we enter the imaginal realms where simplicity of imagery and depth of soul are united.
In this two-hour introductory session, participants will observe a demonstration and be guided in a hands-on direct experience of Touch Drawing as they create a series of images. Time will be allowed for reflecting on the images individually, with a partner, and as a group.
No artistic ability or previous experience is necessary. All Supplies are included in this workshop, but there is a supply fee. You may wish to wear appropriate clothing for art-making or bring your own smock. Plastic smocks will be provided.
Investment: $40 plus ($5 supply fee paid day of class) Class Limited to 10 Participants.
** NOTE: Lori will be offering a day long Touch Drawing Retreat in December. While participation in this Introductory class is not a requirement for the December class, participants in this introduction will be given first opportunity to sign up for the retreat, as space will be limited.
Lori Sweet is a social worker, ARCB certified foot reflexologist, Inner Fitness coach, and Create4Wellness arts facilitator. Lori has created hundreds of classes using the expressive arts (specifically visual arts) for relaxation, healing, and spiritual growth for over 30 years for a variety of populations. She began learning Touch Drawing from its originator, Deborah Koff-Chapin, 20 years ago, during a weekend workshop at Omega. They remain friends. Over the years, Lori has attended the Annual Touch Drawing Gatherings and other in-person sessions with Deborah and studied the Facilitators Handbook while maintaining her personal practice in Touch Drawing. Spending the past year working with Deborah, through an online facilitator’s support group, has inspired Lori to take on the mission of sharing Touch Drawing with others.
